In the early days of the horseless carriage driving a car at night was hardly an issue. Before the days of electric lights, gas lamps were used on cars. Since the early part of the 20th century, Hudsons, Model T's and Model A's all had head lights and some had cowl lights. Since World War II cars like the Chevy Impala and the Pontiac Grand Prix used headlights to distinctively identify their brand.
